It's a daily charge for vehicles that don't meet the emission standards. No vehicle is banned from the zone.
For cars, vans and taxis that don't meet the standards. It's £50 a day for coaches, buses and HGVs.
If you don't pay by 11:59pm within six days of your journey. It's reduced to £60 if you pay the fine within 14 days.
Vehicles that meet the standards don't pay. There are also exemptions for some commercial, specialist, community, school, historic, military and disabled passenger vehicles.
Birmingham is a Class D zone. That means cars are included as well as buses, coaches, taxis, private hire vehicles, HGVs, vans and minibuses.
You don't have to pay if your vehicle meets these standards:

If your vehicle meets the emission standards, the app tells you it's exempt and you don't need to pay. Many other vehicles are exempt too: commercial, specialist, ultra-low emission, retro-fitted, certain types of agricultural vehicles, community, school, disabled passenger tax class 85, historic, military and visitors to certain medical centres. Residents and workers may also apply for an exempt status.
The Birmingham CAZ covers all roads within the A4540 Middleway Ring Road, but not the Middleway itself. You can view a map of the zone on our Birmingham CAZ page.
