Summary
The Bath CAZ was the first Clean Air Zone outside London when it went live in March 2021.
Nitrogen dioxide levels in Bath have dropped by 21% since the zone launched.
Private cars and motorcycles don't pay, but older taxis, vans, minibuses, buses, coaches and HGVs do.

“You can't see it and you can't smell it, but nitrogen dioxide is a hidden killer, contributing to as many as 36,000 early deaths in the UK each year.”

Dr Bruce Laurence, director of public health

High levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) can affect how a child's lungs develop. It can also lead to asthma from an early age. The Bath CAZ cuts air pollution to help keep children and older residents safe.
